What I've been up to while away from Blogger Land

I've been kind of out of sorts the past few days. My Fybromyalgia  has kicked in again and left me listless, achy, and very much "Brain Fogged" I gave it a day of and a half of
 rest and then said ENOUGH!
I worked on a little project that wouldn't take much time and energy but something I wanted to do.
My Mother-in-law gave us this little table several years ago and it's served many different functions before being stuck in the basement for years.

When I decluttered the mantle this month there was no place for the nature figurines that Bob's son had given us. I remembered the little table in the basement and brought it up. I wasn't real happy with everything being the same color and it made the figurines blend right in with the table top. I thought about painting the top but hubby wasn't real keen on that. So I decided to make a place mat out of  old sheet music. I had some very brittle sheets from an old German Piano Music Book that the "DOG" had destroyed the beautiful red linen and gold cover of..... but that's another story.

So I gathered up my supplies...can't do anything without my favorite energy drink and aren't those blue bottles gorgeous? I used a sheet of  Bristol Art paper as the base and tore around the edges. I also tore the edges of the sheet music. and then mod podged them down to the art paper. I used the gloss mod podge and applied several coats.

I also applied a couple of coats to the back side once the front was dried and then it laid flat :)

I placed one of my favorite hand turned bowls my Dad made me on the ring below the top and I think it added a little Earthyness to the coldness of the metal legs and ring. The place mat gives the top the color  separation it needed to make the figurines POP. I did end up moving the gourd to another part of the house.
All in all I'm liking my little project.
I do have a new project in the works! Hubby and I went to the local flea market Sunday and found a jewel of a little desk that needs some TLC. The price was great  and with a bit of elbow grease and paint she'll be fantastic. Here is her before preview...

She's not an old piece ...just an abused piece...but she'll be beautiful again real soon :)

  4. Very nice. I don't do it a lot but there is something very satisfying about refinishing wood objects. I did an old very dark piano my spouse bought for me once..... it took all summer. :)
